2008 Job Shadow Day
Wednesday, April 23rd

The Cultural Diversity Committee will sponsor the 2008 Job Shadow Day on April 23. Unlike in previous years when high school students were targeted for participation, this year’s crop of participants will be from area colleges and universities. In an effort to cast a wide net to capture typically underrepresented minorities, students will represent disciplines outside communications such as psychology, American Studies, art or accounting. We’ll need host agencies that are willing to dedicate a day toward introducing talented people to the wonderful world of advertising. Want to know more? Contact Tamala Barksdale at tbarksdale@enviromedia.com.

The ADDYs Are Upon Us
Nearly 700 entries for The Austin Show, 2008 ADDY Awards were judged this past weekend. The outcome? The Austin creative community remains strong and supremely talented. Our national and international peers agree to judge our work because they know Austin is an advertising community to watch and even envy with our highly-touted quality of life.

Why are we rebranding the Austin ADDYs as The Austin Show? Because the toughest part of the ADDY winning process is here in our own backyard. Regardless of the outcomes at district and national levels, if you win at The Austin Show, you’ve reached a new level. One of our goals this year is to help Austin become one of the most respected ad communities in the country – The Austin Show helps move us toward that goal.

In March, JC Penney will receive the Advertising Federation District 10's “Innovation and Leadership” Award. T-3 was a contributor to JC Penney's success, and we congratulate the folks on Rio Grande for their savvy contributions. You can read more about their involvement in this innovative campaign below.

Happy 2008 to all and see you at The Austin Show on February 22.

Always Listening,
Pat Niekamp, President

Approximately 60 members and friends gathered at The Marq on January 11 for a happy hour welcoming our esteemed Austin Show judges to town for their judging duties. Judges Bryn Mooth (HOW Magazine), Monkey Watson (Wong Doody), Bill Oberlander (McCann-Erickson) and Paul Hains (The Marketing Store) provided attendees with a snapshot of their creative philosophies along with their most interesting work over the course of some super-impressive careers.

All judges noted how impressed they were with the caliber of entries and enjoyed their visits to our fair city. Click here to see more of the happy hour shenanigans.
Kudos Corner
The Award-winning Partnership of T3 and JCPenney

T3On March 6, the American Advertising Federation’s District 10 will present JCPenney and its advertising agency partners with its annual Innovation and Leadership in Advertising Award, honoring their work on JCPenney’s new “Every Day Matters” brand positioning. Given to companies with employment in District 10, the award honors excellence in advertising in the areas of media, diversity and leadership. Austin-based T3 (The Think Tank), which has supported JCPenney’s non-traditional marketing efforts since 2002, will be part of the award-winning team.

To support the launch of JCPenney’s brand positioning, introduced to customers in spring 2007, T3 developed a desktop application and two Web sites to reflect “Every Day Matters,” which is intended to generate deeper, more emotionally driven relationships with customers. Each piece of work focused on user experience and engagement, demonstrating JCPenney’s commitment to building customer relationships. Read More.

GSD&M Launches Norweigian Cruise Lines TV Ads
GSD&M’s Idea City recently launched a series of ads on network and cable TV for Norwegian Cruise Lines highlighting the advantages of the brand's Freestyle Cruising, where vacationers can leave a regimented schedule at the port. Watch the ad here. Other ads focus on the dinner ritual on most cruise ships, meaning that you don't get to choose the people you sit with, and you never know who you'll get stuck dining next to for a week.
